June was a month of cakes and bakes for me and rightly so since, June is also the Birthday month for A-who is blessed with an eternal sweet tooth! It is surprising to see someone loving sweets to the extent that he does, especially for someone like me who is not at all fond of sweets except maybe chocolates or an occasional ice-cream. (Surprisingly A doesn’t like chocolates! Opposites attract I guess 🙂 ) After we got married I would be amazed to see him eat Kheer or similar Indian sweets for breakfast. I am someone who cannot have even…

Stone Fruit Tarts
Apricots, Peaches, Cherries, Mangoes, lychees; its the season for all these wonderful fruits. Usually, I enjoy my fruits in their natural form, as it is; with cooking or baking.A batch of peaches I bought some time back was very sour and was just lurking around in the fridge. I was thinking of ways to use-up the fruits when I saw Deeba’s post about these gorgeous tarts. The fate of my sour peaches was sealed; they along with a handful of cherries and apricots were baked to make these delectable tarts. The other thing which attracted me to the recipe was…
Tiramisu Cake- A sweet punch
One of my resolutions (?) for the New Year was to explore baking beyond the simple basic cakes and cookies. This also meant an opportunity to try out different recipes from the several cookbooks I own; cookbooks which were just gathering dust on the shelves.Given my hectic schedule and the 6-7 hr daily power out(r)age I was getting nowhere near implementing my resolution. So when Ria, Maria and Divya announced -A Sweet PunchI could not resist the opportunity. ‘A Sweet Punchis a monthly baking event started by Ria, Maria and Divya, to make baking as simple as possible, bringing you a…
Lebanese Smoked Vegetable Sandwich
Past week we have been gorging on Mediterranean food. Made whole wheat Pita bread using Sanjeevkapoor’s recipe. They turned out quite good with ~ 80% puffing rate! Stuffed it with Falafel from the recipe here and topped it with Nupur’s Tahini sauce. This was just a prelude to the party that we had to host. For the party I made some Pita bread stuffed with smoked vegetables (Lebanese smoked vegetable sandwich) and topped with a yoghurt-mustard dip both recipes from Nita Mehta’s mini cookbook ‘Low cal snacks’. This was a huge hit with the guests. I smoked the veggies on…
Pear and Blue Cheese Crostata
I have to confess, I always thought Blue cheese was actually blue till I started blogging and surfing food blogs. I wouldn’t have been adventurous enough to buy a Blue cheese block (for quite a handsome price) if I wasn’t inspired by the fabulous recipes showcased on foodblogs! I googled for blue cheese recipes to do justice to the price I paid for the exotic (yes here it is exotic) cheese and I found this at The Kitchn amongst many wonderful ones! Pear and Blue cheese crostata! Followed the recipe to the last word and was rewarded with a flavorful…
